I’m getting really tired of reblogging posts about all the stuff LoK did wrong because I think the point that “Wow, really awesome ideas, really awful show” can only be driven home so many times.
But fuck I’m ALWAYS seeing it dissected in new and interesting ways that show the depths of just how badly it was fucked.
So there’s a bit of conflict there.
Also, it really bothers me that people keep saying that we should excuse the problematic shit just because it’s a show with a WOC protagonist.
Okay, that’s nice…
But having your show’s lead be a WOC does not mean that the white dudes working on it aren’t going to fuck shit up.
Having a WOC protagonist does not excuse other problematic shit.
In fact, it makes it a hell of a lot worse, IMO.
“Having a WOC protagonist does not excuse other problematic shit.

THIS! THIS! A TRILLION TIMES THIS! And not just in regard to fictional entertainment but real life as well.
Talked to a friend today about what Avatar characters we related to; though I want to be a sublime lady like Asami, the truth is I’m closer to the more abrasive Korra. But really, I aspire to be motherfuckin’ Lin Bei Fonnnggg
sorry i drank some whiskey
I know I’m probably being pedantic, but as a fan of both the Avatar universe and Dieselpunk, it annoys me a bit too much how often I hear Legend of Korra referred to as Steampunk.
It’s like, do you even know what Steampunk is?
Bolin upside down twerking is the best thing EVER.
This started out as a generic pin-up which then morphed into Asami which then required that I add Korra. Oh brain.
